Swimming Edges Out Competition For Second Straight Conference Championship

For the second straight season the UNC Pembroke Women’s Swimming team brought the Conference Carolinas Championship Trophy back to Pembroke. The Braves competed hard across four straight days of competition, taking down Emmanuel and Montevallo. 

The Braves as a team tallied a total of 719.50 points, The Lions placed second and fell short of taking down the Braves with 713.50 points and Montevallo tallied a total of 6006.0 points taking third.  

Sofia Pereira and Benedetta Pepe Pugliese helped their team in key roles in bringing in Individual titles in their respective events. Records were also broken along with a wave of Conference Awards for the Braves  

Pereira was named Freshman of the Year when she broke the school record and conference record in the 1650-yard Freestyle event. Head coach Oscar Roverato claimed the Coach of the Year for the third straight year since the Braves joined the Conference Carolinas  

Six Braves placed in the top ten in their respective events. Britta Schwengle, Fatima Portillo, Katie Raleigh, Fabiana Pesce, Ianna Gomez Veloz just to name a few. The relay team of Pesce, Naekeisha Louis, Gomez Veloz and Schwengle placed second in their team event.  

As this goes to print the Swimming team now turns their focus to the NCAA Championships in Indianaoplis, Indiana. The action begins March 11 – March 15.
