The UNCP concert band gave their final performance for this semester on Tuesday, Feb. 28, with solo performances by the 2023 concerto competition winners.
Casey Bell is a music education major, she won the audition as a soprano. Her performance was the vocals for the piece “Non è ver!”.
Other vocalists were tenors Nick Rumbeau, a music theater major performing “O del mio amato ben”, and Chad Barnes, a non-traditional student who performed “Lonely House”.
Holly Riedesel is a music education major like Bell and played “Concertino” on the flute. Phillip Brown, another instrumentalist, played “Xylophonia” on the Xylophone and other instruments.
Jaelyn Wilson was another winner and a senior, who is double majoring in music and psychology, performed for the last time at UNCP. She was the pianist for the concert and performed “Parade Concerto II. Andantino.”
“I had to push past my anxiety and open myself up to sharing my music with others. So many people were depending on me to represent the music department well, and even though it was a debilitating experience it was so rewarding”, said Wilson, “it was the most rewarding feeling I’ve felt in a long time.”
