On Saturday, Nov. 9, around 30 students from UNC Pembroke joined a BraveVenture trip to the Speedpark at Concord Mills. Students had about three hours to explore the area, choosing from a variety of activities such as go-kart racing, mini golf, bungee jumping and visiting the nearby outlet mall.

The BraveVentures program, organized by the Office of Global Engagement, gives students the chance to visit different places in North Carolina and learn more about life in the United States. For many international students, these trips are a way to spend time off campus, break their weekend routines and make new connections.

Shirsendu Mondal, an outstanding international student from Bangladesh, said BraveVentures is a great opportunity for students who might not know where to go or what to explore. He shared that the program helps students connect with others and learn about American culture while having fun.

Similarly, Tatiana, an international student from Russia, said she loved visiting a new place and meeting people. “The park made me realize how much I love speed,” she said. “It was an amazing experience.”

Since the adventures began in spring 2023, participation has continued to grow, giving students the chance to create lasting memories and showing the university the importance of expanding opportunities beyond campus to help students connect with the wider community and realize what the entire country has to give.

Rosa Ball, assistant director of International Student Engagement, said, “It is great to see so many students join these trips. BraveVentures helps them connect with each other and experience more of what North Carolina has to offer.”

You don’t need to be an international student to join the fun. Students interested in the next adventure can visit BraveConnect to sign up for the next trip. Spots fill up quickly, so be sure to register early!
