UNC Pembroke’s six-game win streak came to an end Saturday afternoon at Younts Stadium, where the Braves suffered a 20-7 defeat to North Greenville in a game defined by costly turnovers and missed opportunities.

The 19th-ranked Braves (6-2, 3-1 CC) entered the matchup unbeaten in conference play, but turnovers at critical moments derailed any momentum. North Greenville (4-3, 4-0 CC), meanwhile, remained perfect in conference action and extended their win streak to four games with a methodical and opportunistic performance.

The game turned early in the first quarter when Tre Robinson was sacked for an 11-yard loss on the opening drive, setting the tone for an afternoon of offensive struggles. UNC Pembroke’s second possession showed signs of life until Jaquan Albright’s fumble halted their advance deep in their own territory. North Greenville recovered and used the short field to build a 3-0 lead.

The second quarter compounded the Braves’ issues. On what could have been a momentum-shifting drive, Robinson hit a big 27-yard gain to Joel Felder, but immediately followed that with an interception to Brooks Russ-Martin. That mistake led to a North Greenville touchdown just minutes later and put the Braves down by double digits.

Despite flashes of promise, including a defensive interception by Justin Foreman in the third quarter, the Braves couldn’t capitalize. Following Foreman’s pick, the Braves advanced to North Greenville’s 3-yard line, only to turn the ball over on downs after a failed fourth-down run by Robinson. On the very next play, the Trailblazers struck with a 90-yard touchdown pass, stretching their lead to 20-0 and effectively sealing the game.

Another fumble on the following Braves drive, and extinguished hopes of a comeback. Even when the Braves finally broke through with an 11-yard rushing touchdown by Robinson in the fourth quarter, it was too little, too late.

Robinson finished the game with 181 passing yards and a rushing score.

The Braves were limited to just 63 yards rushing and converted only 3 of 11 third downs, while North Greenville outgained the Braves 413-306 in total offense.

The Braves will look to rebound next week when they head to Chowan for their final conference road game of the season.
