Braves Swimming Falls to Campbell University

The UNC Pembroke Women’s Swimming team hit the road this past weekend to face off with Division-I Campbell University Saturday afternoon inside the Jones Aquatic Center. The Braves fell 179-80 in the final event total against the Fighting Camels and dropped to 4-1 on the season.

The Braves in the event combined for 14- top 3 finishes to highlight some positives for the Braves in the meet with Fabiana Pesce and Fatima Portillo putting on strong performances in their respective events to come away with top honors in the meet with the Fighting Camels.

Portillo came out on top for the Braves competing in the 200-yard Butterfly with a final time of 2:09.16 and fellow Brave Pesce took home an individual title in the 100-yard Butterfly finishing with a time of 2:09.16. In the team 200-yard Medley the squad of Gabby Hyson, Ianna Gomez Veloz, Pesce and Ting-Yu Pan placed second for UNCP with a team final time of 1:52.00 while the relay team of Pesce, Sofia Pereira, Naekeisha Louis and Britta Schwengle combined for a team finish of second place with a time of 3:41.10 in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.

The Braves will now turn their focus to the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, N.C. beginning Feb. 19. for the Conference Carolinas Championship where the Braves will look to claim back-to-back titles in the four-day event.
