The War of the Gargantuas is a 1966 film shown at History Movie Night, an event hosted by the history department and the anime club here at UNCP.

This well-known film with a cult following was shown to reflect both American and Japanese pop culture. The students learn though this film about the early influences that have now been attributed to modern-day anime.

The film War of the Gargantuas brings up topics that are relevant in society. A discourse about the advancement of technology and what issues technology poses to society.

“I wanted to show something fun and not too serious for Halloween,” Dr. James Hudson said. “I wanted something that would also reflect East Asian culture to UNCP students too.”

The history movie night event happens twice a year here at UNCP and it is a chance to get beyond the college experience through film. The history movie night gives students the opportunity to see history in a new way.

“The strength of the history department is everyone teaches in their own way from lectures to hands-on activities,” Dr. Ryan Anderson said. “The way we teach is through a broad range of classes.”
