Even if they were off duty, UNC Pembroke police officers chose to show up for their community and engage in conversations with their fellow citizens over a hot cup of coffee.
UNCP participated in the 9th Annual National Coffee with a Cop Day on Oct. 2. The Pembroke police officers nurtured relationships and answered questions from the campus community.
Interim Chief of Police Major George Earl Johnson said it was “an opportunity for us to talk to the community and make a connection.” Sodexo sponsored the event on campus and the Pembroke police officers were grateful to them for their generosity.
The National event started in 2011 at a Hawthorne, Calif., McDonald’s. It has since expanded across the country. National Coffee with a Cop Day is held each year on the first Wednesday in October to help build a strong relationship between the community and law enforcement.
Coffee with a Cop is “dedicated to encouraging communication and positive interactions between law enforcement agencies and the public.”
