Pembroke Rolls Over Young Harris at Home

The Braves (5-2-2) defeated the Young Harris Mountain Lions (3-5-1) 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

With the start today, Anna Grossheim broke the school record with 76 starts for the Braves. In her five year career with the Braves, Anna has scored 38 goals and 38 assists from the midfield position.

The Braves started the game off on fire as Mercy Bell ripped a goal into the bottom right corner of the net in the second minute to take the early 1-0 lead. The Mountain Lions responded with two tough shots at the Braves net but goaltender Anna Bass was able to make the saves and keep the 1-0 lead.

In the ninth minute, Young Harris’s Taylor Justice clattered Eugine Amidou in the box giving the Braves a quick penalty shot early in the game. Amidou converted the penalty giving the Braves a commanding 2-0 lead. In the next 10 minutes, Anna Grosshiem took over taking 3 shots, two of them on goal but none of them able to find the back of the net.

The Braves ended the first half with a 2-0 lead and a dominated the shot total 13-3.

Anna Bass showed out to start the second half making two saves in the first 10 minutes to hold the two goal lead for the Braves. In the 54th minute, Mercy Bell blasted a shot off the crossbar that would’ve given the Braves a 3-0 lead.

Maria Cancio booted a shot at the Mountain Lions net in the 67th minute but it was easily hauled in by the keeper Mckenna Peaster. A minute later, Anna Bass followed up with a save of her own against the Mountain Lions.

The Braves controlled the rest of the game and were able to hang on to win 2-0 at home. Mercy Bell and Eugine Amidou each had a goal for the Braves. In addition to the goal, Bell also tallied 8 shots on the contest, Anna Grosshiem had 6.

The Braves will host Chowan on Tuesday at 5 p.m. for more Conference Carolinas action.
