The UNC Pembroke women’s volleyball team wrapped up their first tournament of the season going 1-2 in the Bahama House Classic. The Braves faced off with Emory Riddle, Flagler and Georgian Court in a two-day round robin style tournament held inside the ICI Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Game 1 vs Emory Riddle
The Braves faced off with the Eagles to get things going Friday night. The Eagles took control early and never let up against the Braves winning the match over UNCP 3-0 (12-25, 20-25, 12-20).
On the offensive side of the net, Abby Peduzzi led the way with six kills, Mckenna Haves followed with four kills and Ruby Countryman. Tyler Patterson provided the assist for the Braves leading the way with 13, Brette Doile finished with three and Karagyn Durco with two.
On the defensive side of the net Countryman led the Braves defense with four blocks, Emma Fraidenburg and Precious Daley each had two blocks each. Doile led the Braves un Digs with nine, Peduzzi followed with eight, and Katelynn Swain with six. The Braves totaled three aces on the service line.
Game 2 vs Flagler
The Braves lost early Saturday morning in another sweep this time to the Flagler Saints 3-0 (18-25,20-25,19-25).
Daley led the Braves attack in this game with 10 kills, Countryman followed with six kills and Fraidenburg with five kills. Patterson finished the game leading the Braves with 14 assists, Durco followed with eight and Doile with five.
On the defensive side Doile led UNCP with 16 digs, Patterson followed with eight and Durco with six. Swain brought down three blocks at the net and Daley and Peduzzi each had two blocks. UNCP recorded four aces at the line.
Game 3 vs Georgian Court
The Braves rebounded and picked up their first win of the season with a 3-0 victory over the Georgian Court Lions. The scores were as follows (28-26,25-18,25-23).
Peduzzi led the offensive attack against the Lions with 19 kills, Hayes followed with eight and Countryman had six on the night. Durco brought the assist with 17 total, Patterson followed 15 and Doile with three.
Hayes led the Braves on the defensive side of the ball with 13 digs, Doile had five and Peduzzi had eight. Swain recorded six blocks at the net and Daley and Countryman combined for eight. The Braves had six service aces with Hayes recording four.
The Braves will now make the trek to Alaska for the Denali State Ice Block Classic. They kick of this three-day tournament with Slippery Rock on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Golf Finishes 11th at Tournament Opener.
The UNC Pembroke golf team shot a 26-over-par 314 in the final round of action and jumped up four spots to finish 11th at the AU/Erskine Fall Kickoff
The Braves will return to action on October 7 for the Barton Intercollegiate. The two-day tournament will be played at Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill, N.C.
