
The UNCP Braves womens soccer team (0-2) had their home opener spoiled by the 8th Ranked Lenoir Rhyne Bears on Sunday Afternoon in a 4-1 loss.
The Braves came into the game putting the pressure on the Bears as in the second minute Kafero Roberts got past the Bears defense and got a shot off that flew over the net.
In the 18th minute the Bears managed to strike with a goal into the bottom left corner of the net by Emerson Talley. 5 minutes later the Braves were on the attack again as Anna grosshiem ripped a ball into the bottom right of the net but it was saved by the Bears goaltender.
In the 39th minute, the Bears capitalized on the counter attack on a goal from Aly Ramsey to give the Bears a 2-0 lead before halftime.
Minutes into the second half, Mercy Bell was able to sneak one past the Bears goaltender on an assist from Anna Grossheim to bring the Braves within one. The Bears responded a minute later on Emerson Talley’s second goal of the night.
Nicole Auger’s goal for the Bears in the 84th minute put the game away and capped off the Bears 4-1 win over the Braves.
Despite the loss, the Braves were able to muster up seven shots on goal on Sunday which is an improvement on their only two shots on goal against North Georgia in their first game. Anna Grosshiem lead the team with three shots on goal while Mercy Bell lead the team in total shots, four, two of them being on goal. Goalie Anna Bass made 6 saves in the loss.
The Braves will open up their Conference Carolinas play next Saturday as they travel to Tigerville, S.C to take on the North Greenville Trailblazers.
