Braves Rally To Sweep North Greenville on the Road

The UNC Pembroke women’s basketball team overcame a halftime deficit to take down the North Greenville Crusaders in Conference Carolinas play Saturday afternoon. The Braves trailed at halftime but managed to battle back and pick up the 64-60 win on the road. With the win the Braves improved to 13-6 overall on the season and 8-2 in conference play. As for the Crusaders, with the loss they fell to 11-6 and 5-5 in the conference.  

Kalaya Hall led the way for the Black and Gold finishing with 21 points, three rebounds and two assists. Zaria Clark followed with a performance of 20 points, 10 rebounds and one assist. Kelci Adams finished the afternoon with eight points, three rebounds and one assist.  

Rounding out scoring for the Braves were Alcenia Purnell with six points, Lilian Flantos with four points, Aniah McManus with three points and Hannah Russell with two points.  

For the UNC Pembroke men’s basketball team, they overcame a first half deficit to take down the Crusaders in a wire-to-wire battle that saw the Braves hold on to survive with the 71-69 win. The Braves improved to 15-4 overall with a conference record of 9-1. For North Greenville they fell to 6-11 and 2-9 in the conference. 

Bradlee Haskell led the way for the Braves finishing with 22 points, eight rebounds and one assist. Javonte Waverly followed with 16 points, six rebounds and one assist. Elijah Cobb finished with a performance of 12 points, nine rebounds and two assists. 

Cortez Marion-Holmes finished with nine points, Nygell Verdier with five points, Josh Berenbaum with three points and JaJuan Carr and Amare Miller with two points each to round out the scoring for the UNCP. 

The Braves return home on Wednesday when they welcome the Mount Olive Trojans to Pembroke for Black Out and Military Appreciation Night. Tip-off for the women’s game will be at 5 p.m. with the Men’s game following at 7:30 p.m.
