The exhibition “Domestic Materialism” opened on Jan. 8 in Locklear Hall, on the UNCP campus. The artwork was created by University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill graduate students. The event was hosted by Martin Wannam, a UNCP and UNC-CH faculty member, and Jessica Dupuis, a UNC-CH MFA graduate.

The artists used a multitude of materials and techniques to explore the concept of domesticity. Materials included refrigerator doors, bird feathers, and quilting materials. Featured artists wete John Felix, Mark Anthony Brown Jr., Molly English, Rebecca Pempek, Matthew Troyer, Vera Wienfield, and Carson Whitemore.

“My work is heavily intertwined with (photographic) archives, whether it be family archives, “found” archives, or archives housed in an institution. I am working in the direction of imaging what might have happened or might have been said or might have been done at the time these photographs were taken,” artist Mark Anthony Brown Jr. said.

The exhibit will run through Feb. 23 in Locklear Hall.
