Braves Tame Bobcats
The UNC Pembroke volleyball team picked up a key win Friday night when they welcomed the Lees-McRae Bobcats to down for a Conference Carolina matchup. The Brave used fast starts and momentunm in each of the sets to pick up a 3-0 win (25-22,25-21,25-22)
The Braves erased an early deficit by rallying from a 11-6 deficit to tie the set at 13-13. The Bobcats put up a fight taking a 20-17 lead before a scoring run turned things in the favor of the Braves as they took the first set 25-22.
The second set the Braves started off well jumping out to an early lead and despite the Bobcats tying the match the Braves used a key 7-2 run to take the set 25-21. Leading in the match 2-0 another fast start by the Braves helped propel them to a early advantage and took the third set and the match.
Vanja Przulj led the way last night with 17 kills, one assist and nine digs while coming away with two blocks at the net and one ace. Katie Pressley followed with 42 assist, Ruby Countryman finished with 10 kills, one assist and three blocks at the net. Abby Peduzzi recored nine kills , nine digs.
Braves Finish Weekend With Sweep Over King
The Braves capped off homecoming week with a sweep over the King Tornado Saturday afternoon. The Braves continued there momentum and took control of the pace of the match early en route to a 3-0 win (25-13,25-16,25-15)
The first set saw the Braves make quick work of the kings jumping out to a 8-3 lead early and despite the Tornado mounting a comeback, Braves Ruby Countryman’s kill sparked a scoring run that led to the Braves jumping out to a 21-10 lead and taking the set 25-13 to lead 1-0.
Another fast start for the Braves with the help of Katelynn Swain and Emma Fraidenburg helped propel UNCP to a early advantage but the Tornado didn’t go down easily cutting the Braves lead in half looking to stay alive in the set but another scoring run helped claim the set 25-16. The Tornado went back and forth with the Braves in the third set looking to keep the match alive but the Braves handled it with ease and came away with the win.
Pruzlj finished the afternoon with 20 kills, and two aces. Countryman had 12 kills, and two blocks. Peduzzi finished the afternoon with seven kills, 15 digs. Pressley led the way in assist with 40 followed by Kyleigh Coghlan with four and Hope Turtbyfill with one.
