UNCP and the Pembroke Activities Council (PAC) organized a headphone party on the SC Lawn. The aim was to offer students an alternative to conventional campus gatherings, featuring diverse beats, and personalized musical experiences.
“Students like any excuse to listen to music, and today is Pembroke day, so it’s the best time for students to come out and vibe to good music and have a splendid experience,” said Business Major Ladeja Lotharp.
The SC Lawn, typically a serene space, transformed into a lively dance floor. Professional DJs curated playlists spanning various genres, allowing attendees to toggle between channels and craft their musical journey.
Students like Demilade Babarinde, a sophomore biology major, attended the event for the enjoyment and stress relief it offered.
“I came out here today because it’s going to be fun, and I like singing with people, and this is a good way to de-stress from classwork,” Babarinde said
The diversity of motivations among attendees underscored the universal appeal of music as a means of relaxation and connection.
Kayla Patrick, a biology major and sophomore, attended the event because of its novelty.
“I came to this event because I’ve never been to this type of event before,” Patrick said.
Her presence highlighted PAC’s success in diversifying campus experiences and attracting students seeking unconventional and engaging activities.
“a good social event to meet and hangout with your peers while vibing to good music,” said Business Major Barry Rountree.
His sentiments reinforced PAC’s commitment to creating not just entertaining events but also fostering a sense of community.
Despite widespread appreciation, Demilade Babarinde provided constructive feedback, suggesting a more diverse playlist to better represent the university’s diverse student body. This feedback underscored the importance of continually adapting and refining events to cater to the diversity of the university’s demographic.
PAC’s headphone party marked a distinctive chapter in UNCP’s event landscape, demonstrating the power of music to unite, excite, and create lasting memories. The event served as an example of the university’s commitment to providing students with experiences that go beyond the ordinary, elevating the vibrancy of campus life.
