The UNC Pembroke women’s soccer team rallied late to take down the Chowan Hawks in a hard fought 1-0 win. This win extends the Braves winning streak to three in a row. The Braves are also unbeaten since a 4-3 loss to Belmont Abbey on September 19th.

” I think the most challenging part when you play a team like this is the fact that the back four, the goalkeeper, maybe you’re holding Midfield or your six they don’t have a ton to do and then all of a sudden be called upon four or five times in crucial moments,” UNCP Soccer coach Lars Andersson said. ” I’m proud of the way we play defensively it was another shut out and I thought we were rock solid.”

We head to the 79th minute of the match as we sit scoreless at 0-0, Ashleigh Harris passes it Abigail Lowry who sends it into the back of goal as its tipped off of the Hawks goalie. The Braves defense held Chowan to just five shots on the night.

The Braves had a pretty solid first half despite not coming away with a goal in the first half as they outmatched Chowan 14-0 when it came to first half shots on goals. Both defenses held up as they went into halftime scoreless.

” We realized okay I think we outshot them 14-0 in the first half, ladies if you just stay patient its one thing to you know sit at halftime and go this is not working, the gameplay is not common definition. We just needed to settle down relax a little bit and find a way to score,” Anderson said on adjustments made at halftime.

Lowry finished the game with one goal, Harris finished the game with three shots, one shot on goal, and one assist. Mercy Bell tallied six shots with one coming on goal and Anna Grossheim tallied five shots with three on goal.

The Braves (8-3-2, 6-1-2 CC) will hit the road to Wilson, NC for a Conference Carolina match with Barton (4-4-4, 4-3-3 CC). Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
