The UNC Pembroke women’s soccer hit the road tonight to take on the Limestone Saints in non-conference action. The Saints gained an advantage in the series against the Braves by edging them out in this hard-fought match as they took the 2-1 win.
In the 21st minute the Saints scored first courtesy of a Lucie Bertrand goal to make it 1-0 early. Both teams would step up on defense as that will be the score heading into halftime. The Braves started the second half off on the right foot by tying the game in the 74th minute with a goal from senior Anna Grossheim that sailed past the Saints goalie to tie the match at 1-1. But a late penalty would doom the Braves in the 86th minute as the Saints capitalized on a Penalty Kick that was scored by Ellie Mills as the Saints would hold on to the lead from there.
Grossheim recorded six shots total in the game with three being on goal shots. Sophomore Mercy Bell had five shots with one be a shot of goal. Maria Cancio had two shots and Abgail Lowery with one.
The Braves (2-2-0, 1-0-0 CC) will hit the road again this weekend as they travel to Banner Elk, N.C as they will take on conference foe Lees-McRae (0-4-0, 0-0-0 CC). Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
