UNCP vs. King – Jan. 28
The UNC Pembroke women’s basketball team had a dominant performance against King winning 64-43 at home on Saturday.
The Braves forced 25 turnovers and scored 28 points in the paint on the way to their win. Pembroke now has a 15-7 record and 12-2 in conference play, as well as eight straight home game wins under their belt. This win improves Pembroke 3-1 against King.
Redshirt junior Kalaya Hall was key in her team’s performance with 18 points on the scoreboard and game highs of three steals and seven rebounds. Hall, redshirt sophomore Hannah Russel and sophomore Malea Garrison all tied the game high of seven rebounds while redshirt junior Aniah McManus recorded the game-high of four assists. Sophomore Zaria Clark also recorded a steal, 12 points and five rebounds while redshirt junior Lillian Flantos followed on the scoreboard with eight points and two rebounds. The Braves were 80% from the free-throw line at the end of the night.
On the other hand, the Tornados have now suffered six consecutive losses and have only won two out of 11 games on the road. UNCP now boasts a 15-7,12-2 overall record standing at second in the conference.
The Braves will face the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University next at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
UNCP vs. Mount Olive- Jan. 25
The UNC Pembroke women’s basketball team delivered a decisive 58-42 victory over Mount Olive at Lumbee Guaranty Court on Wednesday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Court.
The Braves shot above 40% in two quarters, scoring 24 points in the paint, and extended their home win streak to six games. They now have a perfect 17-0 all-time record against Mount Olive in Pembroke.
Courtney Smith led the Braves on the scoreboard with 16 points and 8-8 free throws while fellow redshirt junior Lillian Flantos scored her career high of 13 points and seven rebounds against the Trojans recording 75% shooting. Other game leaders included sophomore Zaria Clark with three steals and 10 points, redshirt sophomore Kelci Adams with seven points and redshirt junior Alcenia Purnell with a game high of four assists.
Meanwhile, the Trojans suffered their third consecutive loss, falling to 2-7 when playing on the road.
The Braves will take the court again at home for the Alumni game against King University at 4 p.m. at Lumbee Guaranty court on Saturday, January 28.
