The Braves Softball Splits Doubleheader With Wingate Bulldogs

The Braves Softball team traveled to Wingate University to battle the Bulldogs in a doubleheader on March 3.

UNCP lost the first game 5-4, but brought it back in the second game with 2 home runs bringing in the win of 11-5 over the Bulldogs.

Game one started strong for the Braves, leading off with scoring a run in the 1st inning against the Bulldogs. In the 3rd inning the Bulldogs packed some heat scoring a total of 4 runs. But things really took a turn in the 5th inning when the Braves led off and scored a total of 3 runs tying the game.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Bulldogs were able to score another run putting them in the lead for game one. The two teams battled through the 6th and 7th innings, not allowing one run to cross home plate. The Bulldogs took game one with a final score of 5-4.

Game two started with a standoff in the 1st inning, no runs made it across home plate. In the 2nd inning, the braves led off yet again and brought the heat, with a total of 5 runs, the braves started strong. At the bottom of the 2nd inning Wingate was only able to pull in 1 run. The Braves and Bulldogs battled for the next three innings, when Wingate brought their bats and recorded a total of 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, tying the score against the braves.

By scoring another 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning, and 2 runs in the top of the 7th, the Braves were able to hold their own and bring home the win by a final score of 11-5 over the Bulldogs.

The Braves are currently 11-5 overall on the season, and have yet to face a conference opponent.
