SGA and the Department of Athletics celebrate 910 Day as a fun day for school spirit at UNCP for students. There was music, activities and a few prizes for students at the UC Lawn. The event was open for everyone to attend.
SGA wanted to promote school spirit for UNCP students by hosting black and gold Fridays. Students wear the school colors to show their enthusiasm for the upcoming sporting events. The Department of Athletics normally hosts 910 Day; however, since 910 Day fell on a Friday, SGA and the Department of Athletics decided to collaborate this year. The celebration had cornhole for students to play against one another for fun, a trophy photo-op, music at the UC Lawn, and a raffle with SGA.
The raffles had two prizes, which were $150 dollars worth of swag or a black, white and gray fleece blanket. The winners were announced live on Instagram at 6 PM Thursday.
Morgan Dowdy, a junior, participated in the raffle. “I am aiming for the prize of the blanket. I love having lots of blankets to sleep with,” Morgan Dowdy said.
Ashanti Hendricks, a senior, is the Vice President of the Student Government Association. “SGA held the event as a fun day for students to wear black and gold for school spirit while having fun at the same time,” Ashanti Hendricks said.
Students learned about the event through their Bravemail, Instagram, Brave Connect, or through @uncp_sga and @uncp_sports.
