The UNCP Softball team picked up their first win in nearly a month when they split their doubleheader with the Limestone College Saints on Mar.20 when they traveled to Gaffney, SC. Their losing streak was running at nine-games before they were able to bounce back from dropping the first game 5-6 and win the second game of the twinbill 10-7.
Game 1:

Neither team was able to get anything going on offense through two and a half innings until the bottom of the third frame when the Saints put a pair of runs on the board for the first scores of the game. Limestone would build a 5-0 in the fourth inning advantage after a homer over the right field with two runners on base.

The Braves would make things interesting in the top of the fifth inning when a leadoff double from Chloe Radford and a five-pitch walk drawn by Lauren Hilbourn put a pair of runners on base. That set the stage for Shelby Thomas, who would send a homer of her own over right field to cut the deficit to 5-3.

The Black and Gold would knot the game up at 5-5 following two-run homer from Tatum Brummitt brought her and Mary Sells back to home plate for the game-tying play. After a scoreless sixth inning, the Braves would be denied at the plate again at the top of the seventh and Limestone would secure the first game of the doubleheader with a walk-off homer in the bottom of the frame.
Game 2:

The Saints would carry that momentum into the second game of the twinbill as it couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start to the Braves who were staring up at a 5-0 deficit after just one inning. Their pitching staff would lock in from then on and hold their hosts scoreless through the next three innings.

A solo homer from Jordan Adcox at the top of the second sparked what would be the Braves’ best offensive outing in nearly a month as they would rack up 12 hits and 10 runs while only surrendering a pair of run in the bottom of the fifth and putting together three multiple-run innings in the last five frames to secure the 10-7 victory.
