With the semester dwindling and the exam period looming around the corner, some students may need to be reminded about the places our campus provides for a bit of relaxation. The next time you’re looking for a place best suited for a study break or downtime, keep in mind these following options:
The Quad
The quad, right between Old Main and the Livermore Library, is the main scenery of the campus (it is also a perfect setting for taking some good looking pics for the gram) and is a nice spot to loosen up and enjoy the weather.
The quad features an open grassy land, a pond with a waterfall and a beautiful bell tower. It is common to see students setting up and lounging around in hammocks at this scene.
“The bell tower next to the water feature is relaxing to me because of the sound of the water, animals, and the wind in the trees,” said an unnamed freshman.
The UC
The UC is the central gathering area of the campus. It is the perfect space for meeting up with friends to chill out in the lounges, grab a meal in the cafeteria or Chick-fil-A, or battle it out in the game room. Whether you are looking for some peace and quiet to study or you want to meet and catch up with friends the UC is the place to be.
“I love the music they play on the piano,” said freshman Kentwan Taylor “It soothes me so much.”
Hawks Nest
Located within the UC, this recreation center provides students with a variety of games to play such as bowling, pool, ping pong and video gaming systems such as the Xbox One, PS4 and Wii-U. Students can spend an endless amount of time having good rivalry between friends, while relieving the stress of college in the Hawks Nest.
“I haven’t gone much as a professional staff member, but when I was a student, I frequently bowled, played pool, etc.,” said North/Bell’s community director, Jose McKinney. “It was a place to de-stress.”
On-Campus Dining
With options ranging from pizza, to chicken sandwiches or coffees and fraps, the campus offers a variety of popular fast-food chains such as Papa Johns, Chickfil-A, Einstein Bros. Bagels and Starbucks.
The environment of the dining services are designed well for those who choose to do work there, with the most popular spot being Starbucks.
“Definitely Starbucks if it’s warm enough,” said freshman student, Patricia Kuhn. “It’s just a really nice place to listen to music and chill.”
Mary Livermore Library
If you’re an avid bookworm and love having your head stuffed in a book, than the calm and quiet library is for you. Students can find themselves a quiet space alone or come with groups of friends and hang out in the many study rooms available.
The library does not just offer books, but it also has movies that you can check out for free.
“My favorite place to relax on campus is the library,” said North Hall’s RA and freshman student, Linda Rivera. “It is a quiet open area where I can let my thoughts flow.”
