Amid allegations that violence on campus is increasing, Police Detective Sebastian Veneziano has refuted that claim.

“I have seen no spike in any sort of violence on campus,” Veneziano said.

“Domestic violence, anything that’s included as a violation of student conduct” is independently investigated, archived into statistics and reported by the Title IX and Clery office Veneziano stated.

“The timely warning messages are part of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke’s commitment to provide campus crime information in compliance with the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or Clery Act as it is commonly known,” according to UNCP’s Police and Public Safety.

The Clery emails work to communicate potential dangers to the students on or off

campus and also work to collaborate some of the details campus police may not know at

    the time.

As UNCP appears stable in sexual assault, home invasions and robberies, the amount of fires and fire alarms continues to rise.

According to the Police and Public Safety’s daily crime report, there have been 29 reported fire alarms this month alone. That is up from last month’s 6 fire alarm

    activations.

The Police and Safety department reported the latest home invasion on Sept. 5, in an apartment complex off campus.

Only two sexual assaults have occurred on campus since last semester, one in the

summer and one in September, according to Veneziano.

The last Police and Public Safety email that was sent out to students was 2 months ago.
