The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina Department of Energy will accept applications for the Heating Assistance Program (HAP) from January 5 to 30, 2026.
The department staff was scheduled to begin receiving applications on Nov. 3, but the program was delayed due to the government shutdown.
LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) provides vital assistance to help eligible
households with energy costs during the year’s coldest months. The Department of Energy is
committed to ensuring that families in need can stay safe and warm this winter.
“We understand that many families rely on this support, especially during the winter season,” said Tony
Hunt, Director of Client Services/Department of Energy Manager. “Despite the current
government shutdown and the decision to delay our Heating Assistance Program, our priority is to
ensure that we will be able to provide the necessary assistance that our Tribal Community relies on
yearly.”
