Question:
1. How much trust do you have in federal law enforcement today? Why?
2. Do you believe law enforcement officers should always be required to identify themselves and be recognizable to the public, even in tense situations? Why or why not?
3. In your opinion, is it appropriate for law enforcement to wear things that obscure or hide their faces? Why?
By Aaliyah Pamplin
In the U.S., law enforcement typically works with visible identification, such as badge numbers or name tags, so the public knows who’s using government authority. Recently, however, even at public or peaceful events, some federal agents have been wearing masks that hide their faces.
Some argue that face coverings help protect officers from threats, doxing, or harassment. Other say it creates an unaccountable “faceless” force that undermines justice, transparency, and democracy-asking,
“How can someone hold an officer accountable if you don’t know who they are?”
