Braves Rally Past Felician in Alaska

The Braves (2-3) pick up their second win of the season and first in the Denali State Ice Block Classic in 3-1 win against Felician (2-5).

Set 1

McKenna Hayes got the party started for the Braves as she got the kill on the first possession to give them the early 1-0 lead. This kicked off a 7-2 run to start the first set. Felician battled back to tie the game up at 12 halfway through the set. After trading points, the Braves were able to take a 17-14 lead off of three straight points from the Braves

Back to Back kills from Mckenna Hayes put the Braves up 19-15 in the first set. Later in the set, three straight Braves points gave them a 22-17 lead three points away from the win. Then it all fell apart for the Braves as Felician went on a monstrous 8-0 run to take back the set 25-22.

Set 2

Felician was able to build off of their set 1 win by coming out strong in the second set taking a 5-1 lead early. The teams then traded points for the next few possessions until the Braves got hot and scored six straight capped off with a Precious Daley kill to make it 13-10. With the score at 17-14, the Braves again showed their dominance by going on a 4 point run to bring the lead up to 21-14. They would go on to win the set 25-16 after back to back attack errors by Felician to end it.

Set 3

The Braves took advantage of a bad set by Felician to take the first point of the set. A serice ace and a kill by Katelynn Swain gave the Braves the early 3-0 lead. With the Braves up 7-3, Felician went on a three point run to make it a 7-6 match. A McKenna Hayes kill and two Felician attack errors gave the Braves another 4 point lead 10-6. The teams went back and forth until Felician was able to pull off three straight points to bring them within two at 18-16. The fight was short lived however as the Braves were able to hold Felician off foe the rest of the set until Katelynn Swain ended the set with a kill to give the Braves a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set.

Set 4

The Braves started the fourth set exactly how they ended the last one going out to an early 5-2 lead. Felician was able to weather the storm trading points with them until the game was 8-6. Then, the Braves caught fire. Starting with an Abby Peduzzi kill, they were able to rack off a 8-0 run to blow the game open 16-6. They were not done yet there either, after a Felician point, the Braves then pulled off another three point run to go up 19-7 with the win in sight. Two Braves attack errors and two kills brought Felician back within 8 at 19-11. The teams then traded points until it was 23-13 when Felician went on a four point streak making it 23-17. The Braves shut down the run from Felician with kills from McKenna Hayes and a Abby Peduzzi to end it 25-17 and win the match 3-1.

The Braves will be back in the Denali State Ice Block Classic on Saturday playing a doubleheader at 3 p.m and 11 p.p against Alaska Anchorage and the home team Alaska Fairbanks.
