The Student Success Center hosted a relaxing experience with their “Paint a Motivational Rock” event, featuring graduate students Michaela York, Kamari Simpson, and Drama Sutton.

The “Paint A Motivational Rock” event offered a break from the typical demands of the college routine. The event encouraged students to complete the semester by engaging in the creative activity of painting motivational rocks. The Student Success Center provided students with supplies to paint their rocks as a keepsake for the semester.

“Students on academic notice seek motivation from external sources, so we give them motivation here,” Rocky Locklear, student academic support coordinator said.

The event took place in the Student Center Mall on Jan. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Only a few students participated in this event. Students who visited the Student Success table could share a song that encourages them daily, to motivate other students with their song suggestions.

The students who participated in this activity spoke highly of it and were actively engaged as they relaxed during the middle of this busy semester. Many of the students who participated were a mixture of Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior students in both the undergraduate and graduate programs.

“Most events that Student Success hosts motivate me for this semester,” Kamiya Hedges, a freshman majoring in nursing, said.

Participating in activities like this can alleviate stress, depression, and anxiety among college students, fostering focus and motivation throughout the academic school year.

“I think you should have something to focus on so that life isn’t boring or depressing,” Hedges said.

Crafting motivational rock art and recommending songs aid students in sustaining motivation throughout the semester, promoting a successful academic term and nurturing a focused mindset to better student’s grades.

“This motivates me every day and helps me be a positive role model for others,” Drama Sutton, graduate student majoring in social work said.
