Basketball Splits With Converse

Men’s Basketball

The #25 ranked UNC Pembroke men’s basketball team battled late and held off the Converse Valkyries on the road Saturday evening. The Braves closed things out in the second half taking down Converse 73-58.

With the win the Braves have improved to 21-5 on the season and 15-2 in the conference. For Converse they fall to 17-10 and 9-8 in conference

Bradlee Haskell led the way for the Braves finishing with 17 points, two rebounds, one steal and an assist. Nygell Verdier followed with 13 points and eight rebounds. JaJuan Carr finished the night with 11 points and Elijah Cobb had 10 rebounds.

Women’s Basketball

The Converse Women’s Basketball team pulled off a double-overtime upset over the UNC Pembroke Braves this past weekend at home. A 11-0 run by the Valkyries helped them take down the Braves 73-65 snapping UNCP’s eight game winning streak.

With the loss the Braves fall to 20-7 on the season and 14-3 in conference play. For the Valkyries they improve to 12-15, 8-9 in conference.

Lillian Flantos led the way for the Braves finishing with a career high 15 points while also adding four rebounds and three assists to her stat line. Kelci Adams coming off her 23 point performance against Mount Olive had 12 points and 10 rebounds against Converse. Kalaya Hall finished with 12 points and four assists while Courtney Smith finished the afternoon with 10 points, four rebounds and two steals.

The Braves return home for the last regular season game of the year when they welcome the Chowan Hawks to town. Tip-off for the women’s game is set for 5 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 7 p.m.
