Fourth Quarter Magic Lifts Braves Past Hawks
The UNC Pembroke women’s basketball team picked up a hard-fought win over the Chowan Hawks in Conference Carolinas play on the road Wednesday evening. A little fourth quarter magic helped the Braves as they came away with the 78-71 road win.
With the win the Braves improve to 10-4 on the season and 5-0 in Conference Carolina play. For the Hawks they fall to 4-6 on the season and 4-2 in Conference Carolinas play.
Leading the way for the Braves was Kalaya Hall with a career-high performance of thirty-nine points on the night while also grabbing eight rebounds. Courtney Smith followed with a 16-point performance and grabbing one rebound. Zaria Clark finished the night with eight points and six rebounds. Lillian Flantos with seven points and six rebounds, Aniah McManus with six points and Anastasia Sinclair with two points to round out scoring for the Braves.
The Braves will continue their two-game road slate when they take a trip to Belmont, N.C. for a Conference Carolinas matchup with Belmont Abbey. Tip-off set for 2 p.m.
Braves Fend off Hawks Late
The UNC Pembroke men’s basketball team defeated the Chowan Hawks in Conference Carolinas action on the road Wednesday night. The Braves managed to rally late and hold off a comeback attempt by the Hawks for the 73-64 win. The win marks nine straight wins for the Braves.
With the win the Braves improved to 11-3 overall on the season and 5-0 in Conference Carolinas play. Chowan falls to 9-6 on the year and 3-3 in conference play.
Nygell Verdier led the way for the Braves, finishing with twenty-three points, four rebounds and three assists. Bradlee Haskell followed with sixteen points, five assists and five rebounds. Elijah Cobb finished the night with eleven points, thirteen rebounds and one assist. Javonte Waverly recorded seven points, one rebound and two assists. Four Braves finished the night with four points each to round out the scoring.
The Braves will hit the road on Saturday to Belmont, N.C. for a Conference Carolinas matchup with Belmont Abbey. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
