Braves Basketball First Half of Season Recap

The first half of the 2023-24 basketball season for the Men and Women’s team has come and gone as we get set to kick off the second part of the season. It is officially Conference time for both sides as the season starts to wind down.  

For the Men’s team they enter the second half of the season with a current overall record of 10-3 and Conference Carolina’s record of 4-0. They are currently riding an eight-game winning streak. They have picked up key wins over Emporia State, USC Aiken, Fayetteville State, Tusculum, and Converse.  

The Braves as a team are averaging 76.2 points per game, 38.2 rebounds per game, and 14.1 assists per game on the ball’s offensive side. On the defensive side of the ball, they average 7.5 steals per game and 4.9 blocks per game.  

Bradlee Haskell leads the way in points per game with 13.0, Nygell Verdier is averaging 11.6 points per game, Elijah Cobb with 11.1 and JaJuan Carr with 11.0. Cobb is currently the team leader in rebounds averaging 7.8 a game. Verdier with 7.2, Haskell with 3.3 and Carr with 3.0. Carr is currently the assist leader with 2.9, Haskell has 2.4, Cobb with 2.3 and Javonte Waverly with 1.8.  

On the defensive side of the court for the Braves Cobb leads the team in blocks averaging 1.3 per game, Amare Miller follows with 1.1, Amadou Faye with 0.9 and Dallas Gardner with 0.7. Haskell leads the way in steals with 1.8 per game, Carr has 1.2 per game, Cobb with 1.0 and Verdier has 0.8 steals per game.  

The Braves will hit the road Wednesday when they travel to Murfreesboro, N.C. where they will take on Chowan in Conference Carolina’s action. Tip-off set for 7 p.m. 

Women’s Basketball

The Women’s basketball team enters the second half of the season with a record of 9-4 and Conference Carolinas record of 4-0. They have picked up key wins over Coker, St. Augustine, Limestone, Winston-Salem State, and Converse.  

As a team the Lady Braves are averaging 64.8 points per game, 36.4 rebounds per game, 14.3 assists per game. On the defensive end they are averaging 6.9 steals per game and 2.2 blocks per game. 

Zaria Clark is the team leader in points per game averaging about 15.6, Kalaya Hall follows with 14.5, Kelci Adams with 10.1 and Hannah Russell with 8.4. Clark also leads the team in rebounds with 7.2, Lillian Flantos follows with 4.9, Adams with 4.8 and Hall with 4.4. Leading the way in Assist is Hall with 3.2 assists per game, Aniah McManus follows with 3.1 assists per game, Clark with 2.2 and Jada Coleman with 2.0 assists per game. 

On the defensive ends Clark, Hall, and Russell each are averaging 0.5 blocks per game and Flantos follows with 0.4. Courtney Smith is the current leader in steals per game with 2.0, Hall follows with 1.5 steals per game, McManus with 1.3 and Clark with 1.2. 

The Braves will also hit the road Wednesday when they make the trip to Murfreesboro, N.C. where they will take on Chowan in Conference Carolina’s action. Tip-off set for 5 p.m.
