The UNC Pembroke Wrestling team hosted the 42nd Annual Pembroke Classic at home Sunday morning as they number of teams came to Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court to compete. It was a strong showing for the Braves as they had 7 wrestlers each reach the podium.
Logan Seliga, Logan Robinson, Scott Joll and Christopher Dickey each finished strong on the mats reaching in their respective championships bouts. They also combined for nine total successful pins in their 15 bouts that they competed in.
Seliga competed in the (125 lbs class), Robinson in the (133 lbs class), Joll in the (174 class) and Dickey in the (197). Chance Cottingham finished runner up in his bout being pinned by fellow wrestler Robinson in a 19-4 Technical Fall.
UNCP wrestlers Keegan Roberson, Ulises Varner, and Massimo Sullivan placed third in their respective bouts. Placing a fourth place bout was Will Lowery and Logan Hoffman. Rounding out the scoring for the Braves was Ryan Walker placing fifth in his bout.
The Braves will return to the mat on Wednesday when they face off with Emory & Henry in a Conference Carolina’s dual in Virginia with action set to begin at 6 p.m.
Cross Country Fairs Well in NCAA Southeast Regional
The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams competed this past weekend in the NCAA Southeast hosted by the University of North Georgia in Oakwood, Georgia. The men competed in the 10K race and compiled a 7th place finish while the women competed in the 6K race and compiled a 12th place finish.
Leading on the men’s side was Norman Junker placing 35th with a time of 31:18.4, coming in 55th to follow was Delsin Burkhart with a time of 32:06.3, Hunter Levy rounded out the top three finishes for the Braves coming in at 58th with a time of 32:12.7.
Leading on the women’s side was Moureen Kimaiyo placing 14th with a time 22:24.0, Jackline Kosgei crossed at 22:54.8 to place 26th and Karen Piro crossed at 24:51.5 to place 86th in the race.
Kimaiyo made history to go along with her finish as she ran the 11th fastest 6K in school history while recording the 20th fastest time and now holds eight of the top-25 times for the 6K race.
