After two years, 10-time Grammy award winning artist, John Legend has released his new R&B album “Legend.”  This album manages to take old school sounding R&B music and modernize it. It is the perfect mixture of classic and contemporary. John Legend seems to have found a way to be both generic and innovative with this album.

He sings with his soul about topics that feel unique to him but would also be relatable to others. His album is just one big contradiction that on paper should not work but in its execution becomes something far better than I could have hoped. His song “Strawberry Blush” talks about how he is addicted to his woman’s touch and how he is submerged and drowning in feelings of lust.

The album features other big-name artists as well. Rick Ross who was nominated for five Grammys is featured in one of the standout songs “Rounds.” Jhene Aiko, Ty Dolla $ign and Jazmine Sullivan are just a few of the names that are featured on this album.

It’s been two years since his last album and fans of his music have been wanting more.

“I think John Legend is a pretty great artist. His singing is always on point. It’s been too long since his last album Bigger Love I think it’s called and he rarely has songs that I skip,” senior Brandon Turay said.

However not all fans are excited for the same reasons that people are excited. “I’ve lost interest in his music. It’s not that it’s bad, I just have to be in the mood to hear new music and he isn’t high on my list anymore,” alumnus Christian Mayers said.

John Legend has concerts through the month of October and again in April of 2023. I really enjoyed the album. It has very few songs that I would consider skipping and have already added a few to my playlist. I highly recommend this album and his other albums to anyone interested in R&B music.
