The Men’s Basketball team went 2-1 over their previous three games to improve their record to 4-1.
The Braves defeated the Fayetteville State Broncos 77-58 on Wednesday, Nov 17.
The first half was relatively close with UNCP having the largest lead: 12 points. The Braves ended the half with a nine point lead.
The Braves started the second half on a 35-9 point run to increase their lead from nine to a game high 31 points. The Broncos engineered a 10 point run to bring the lead down to 21 points, but that wouldn’t help them in the long run as the Braves went on to win by 19.
The Braves totaled 12 assists and had four players with double-digit points, with seniors Spencer Levi and Deon Berrien scoring a team high 16 points each, while Tyrell Kirk and Javonte Waverly added 11 points each.
On the boards, the Braves totaled 20 offensive rebounds, 25 defensive rebounds, and 13 second chance points.
Defensively, The Braves totaled two blocks and 10 steals, while holding the Broncos to 39.3% shooting and forcing 17 turnovers.
The Braves were able to largely increase their lead early in the 2nd half. Tyrell Kirk, a senior guard, noted that their ability to push the tempo was integral in creating such a lead.
“Coach challenged us to push the ball in the first four minutes and we came out and pushed it,” Kirk said.
The Braves defeated the Erskine Flying Fleet 110-73 on Saturday, Nov 10.
The Braves picked up right where they left off from their previous game, gaining a 21 point lead in the 1st half and never looking back, ending the game with a game high 37 point lead.
The Braves totaled 28 assists and had six players with double-digit points. Spencer Levi, Tyrell Kirk, and Jakari Gallon scored a team-high 19, 16, and 13 points respectfully, with Jordan Ratliffe and Nate Dunlop adding 12 points each, and Deon Berrien scoring 10 points.
Defensively, The Braves totaled nine blocks and 14 steals, while allowing 33.9% shooting and forcing 18 turnovers.
The Braves were defeated by the Emmanuel University Lions 82-72 on Tuesday, Nov 13.
After being down six early in the 1st half, the Braves worked their way back and ended the half with a three point lead.
The Braves came into the second half strong and gained a six point lead before faltering and allowing the Lions to take control and gain a 10 point lead to finish the game.
The Braves totaled 14 assists and had four players with double-digit points. Spencer Levi, Tyrell Kirk, and Jordan Ratliffe put up 16 points each, while Deon Berrien scored 14 points. Trenton McIntyre, Javonte Waverly, and Jakari Gallon added the remaining 10 points for the Braves.
On the boards, the Braves totaled 17 offensive rebounds, 19 defensive rebounds, and 20 second chance points.
Defensively, The Braves totaled four blocks and 10 steals, while allowing 47.1% shooting and forcing 15 turnovers.
