The Braves softball team traveled to Fayetteville State University on Wednesday, Mar. 27 to match up against the Broncos in a doubleheader. UNCP had a successful outing with 16 hits between both contests and not allowing their hosts to record a single run in either game.

Game 1:

The first game of the doubleheader started slow and silent for both UNCP and Fayetteville State with the first three innings being scoreless. In the top of the fourth, the Braves gained the lead with a start off double by Rendi Wetherington. Jordan Adcox followed with a homer putting two on the board.

Wetherington and Adcox continued to contribute to the Braves in the sixth when Wetherington hit a homer to left field and Adcox followed with a double. Tatum Brummitt also hit a double allowing UNCP to score another run. Carleigh Brooks reached base on a bunt in the final inning and made her way to home plate off an error scoring the last run.

Malerie Leviner pitched for the Braves starting rocky in the first inning but found her pace during the second. Throughout the rest of the game she continued to make it hard for the Broncos to find a sweet spot on their bats, and with back-up from her teammates managed to close the first shutout of the day 5-0.

Game 2:

UNCP gained two runs in the first inning. Wetherington was walked and scored off an error. Alex Watkins hit an RBI single to left field. The two runs capped the scoring for the Braves.

The Braves defense was led by Raygan Larson pitching almost all three up, three down innings and only walking one player. Larson only allowed FSU four hits throughout seven innings, allowing no runs to be scored shutting the Broncos out once again 2-0.
