There has been a lot of record-breaking big money deals that have been reported during the 48-hour legal tampering period that proceeds the opening of the new league year tomorrow but there have been some under the radar deals that have been agreed to with some lesser-known players that could pay significant dividends in the fall and beyond. Here’s a list of some of those deals:
- WR Jamison Crowder: He is viewed by many as the best free agent slot receiver that was slated to hit the market until he and the Jets agreed to terms on a three-year deal worth $28.5 million with $17 million guaranteed.
- WR Adam Humphries: Another slot receiver that has been one of the most consistent and productive over the past few seasons agreed to terms with the Tennessee Titans on a four-year deal worth $36 million.
- WR Devon Funchess: The big-bodied red zone threat of the Carolina Panthers agreed to sign with the Indianapolis Colts on a one-year deal that can be worth up to $13 million.
- RB Latavius Murray: With Mark Ingram set to move on from New Orleans, the Saints agreed to terms to former Vikings Pro Bowl running back Latavius Murray to a four-year deal worth $14.4 million to take Ingram’s place in the one-two punch in their backfield with fellow Pro Bowl rusher Alvin Kamara.
- LB Thomas Davis: The former Carolina Panthers defensive stalwart and three-time Pro Bowl linebacker Thomas Davis will be taking his talents from the east coast across the country to the west after signing a two-year deal with Los Angeles Chargers worth $10.5 million and $5.25 million guaranteed.
- QB Teddy Bridgewater: The fifth-year quarterback opted to resign with the New Orleans Saints to stay under Head Coach Sean Peyton and possibly become the heir apparent to Hall of Famer Drew Brees instead of pursuing an immediate starting job with the Miami Dolphins.
- S Tashaun Gipson: The former Pro Bowl safety is staying in the AFC South and will play his former team in the Jacksonville Jaguars twice a year after signing a three-year $22 million.
- TE Jesse James: The former Pittsburgh Steelers’ tight end will now be catching passes from another strong-armed Pro Bowl quarterback in Matthew Stafford after agreeing to sign with the Detroit Lions on a four-year deal worth $25 million and $11 million fully guaranteed.
- OT Billy Turner: The Green Bay Packers believe they have fortified the interior of their offensive line with the signing the former Denver Broncos guard to a four-year $28 million deal that could have a max value of $29.5 million.
- WR John Brown: After a hot start to the season when paired with the strong-armed Joe Flacco as a member of the Baltimore Ravens last season the speedster nicknamed “Smoke” will now be on the receiving end of passes from another rocket-armed passer in second-year quarterback Josh Allen when he officially signs his three-year $27 million deal with the Buffalo Bills.
- WR Cole Beasley: Joining Brown in Buffalo will be shifty slot receiver Cole Beasley, who will serve as a security blanket for the young Allen when he formally inks his four-year deal worth $29 million and $14.4 million guaranteed.
- OG Rodger Saffold: The Tennessee Titans will be adding the mauling guard who will now be bulldozing defenders clearing the way for bruising running back Derek Henry after agreeing to a four-year deal worth $44 million and $22.5 guaranteed.
- OG James Carpenter: The road-grading interior lineman will be opening holes for Pro Bowl running back Devonte Freeman and pass blocking for former league MVP Matt Ryan as a member of the Atlanta Falcons after agreeing to a four-deal for $40 million.
- WR Breshad Perriman: After not being able to get his career going in the Charm City the former first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2015 draft caught on with division rival Cleveland Browns midway through last season and turned a strong finish to 2018 into a one-year contract worth $4 million with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- OLB Cameron Wake: He may be in the twilight of his career, but the former Miami Dolphins is still a force off the edge and will take his talents to Nashville after agreeing to a three-year deal worth $23 million with $10 million in guarantees.
- DE Henry Anderson: Greg Williams will have the services of one of the New York Jets’ best pass rushers in his first year as defensive coordinator after the team agreed to resign Anderson to a three-year deal that could be worth up to $33 million.
- WR/KR Cordarrelle Patterson: The Windy City will now have two of the most dangerous returners in the NFL after they signed the former first-round pick as swiss army knife offensive weapon signed a two-year deal worth $10 million.
- OG J.R. Sweezy: The former Seattle Seahawks interior lineman is staying in the NFC West after agreeing to terms on two-year contract with Arizona Cardinals to open holes for David Johnson and pass protect for either Josh Rosen or Kyler Murray.
