The UNCP softball team carried the momentum from their strong finish in the season opening invitational into their double header against the Broncos of Fayetteville State University and were dominant from start to finish.

The Braves were able to win both games with phenomenal pitching coupled with a highly proficient offensive attack, they tallied a combined 25 runs off of 27 hits and only surrender one run on the afternoon at the UNCP Softball Field on Feb. 5.

“I think right now we’re attacking any kind of pitcher that people are throwing at us…It was a long adjustment there. It took us awhile to adjust but our whole team adjusted so I think we’re showing a lot of signs of success and maturity in the box,” said Head Coach Brittaney Bennett.

Game 1:

The tandem of juniors Raygan Larson and Jordan Hall, the two right handed pitchers in the first game of the two-game event, were lights out as they gave up a pair of hits between the two of them and team did not allow a single run in the 9-0 victory.

Neither team managed to get to home plate in the first inning, but the Braves turned in five runs in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth inning to secure the win after Hall got three outs at the top of the fifth.

Game 2:

After the two teams combined for a pair of runs in the first inning, it was all Black and Gold from the second inning on. The Braves went on to tally a single run in the next inning and two in the third before running the Broncos out of the stadium with a staggering 12 runs in the fourth inning alone to capture the lopsided 16-1 triumph after freshman, right handed pitcher, Jessica Williams closed out the second game with three outs at the top of another fifth inning.

Quick Takes:

The Braves overall record is now 4-2 and they look forward to adding to this four-game win streak after dropping their first two games of the season. They had four players register a pair of runs, four players get more than one hit and six players put up a pair of RBIs.

Junior Alyssa Price hit a two-run homer in the Braves’ explosive 12 run inning in game two. Sophomore Rendi Wetherington had a triple at bat and a double in hits in that game as well.
