The UNCP women’s golf team finished in second place at the PBC tournament.

The UNCP women’s golf team made its way down to St. Augustine, Fla. on the World Golf Village/Slammer & Squire Course to participate in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament from April 13-15.
On the first day, the Braves occupied the top three spots on the individual leaderboard. The Black and Gold broke 300 for the first time ever at the PBC championship to grab a 11-stroke advantage over the No. 7 Flagler Saints, after 18 holes of the 54-hole course.
The Lady Braves’ 296 was the program’s lowest overall score since September 2016. The record broke the previous tournament record of 301 by five strokes. The Black and Gold led the field in par-3 scoring with a +2, par-5 scoring with a -3 and 14 total birdies in the opening round.
It’s the first time UNCP has led after a round of the championship tournament since 2014. Freshman Maddy Corley was four shots clear of the field after recording an opening round 70, which included a field best six birdies.
Corley bogeyed two of her first three holes, but followed up with birdies on six of her next 11 to advance to four under. A pair of bogeys on 17 and 18 concluded a two under par round for the PBC freshman of the year.
Day two mirrored the results from the day before as all five of the Lady Braves shot in the 70s in the second round of the tournament. Corley finished in first place in the individual ranks.
Corley had her lead cut down from four strokes down to one after a 79 in the second round, but she still led the field in total birdies with seven. She posted her lone birdie of the day on the par-4 fifth hole.
Sophomore Megan Munroe was just one shot off the lead after carding a 76, including a pair of birdies on holes 1 and 8. Day three featured similar results from the first two days of the tournament, except they were not able to hold on to and a secure first place finish.
On the windy day, when speeds climbed upwards of 25 miles per hour, the Black and Gold were edged out the seventh-ranked Saints for the tournament title. However, the Braves were able to record their best team finish of the conference championship since the 2014 campaign.
Despite leading at the end day one and two’s rounds, the Braves fell into second place with a 327 in the final round, 327 on the par-72. The Lady Braves led the field in par-5 scoring and total birdies with 23 in all three rounds, but were undone by 40 bogeys or worse in the day’s final round.
The first year stand out Corley tied for second-place with an 83 in the final round. Junior Alexandria Bare shot up five spots into a tie for second as well.
She was one of only seven players to card a round in the 70s on the last day. With a 79, she marked a career-best postseason finish in her three years as a Brave.
