The UNCP women’s golf team has had an impressive season up to this point dating back to last semester. The team notched top 10 finishes in all but four of their 14 outings this year.
Battle at Old South
The team finished in eighth place as the Black and Gold hosted Battle at Old South in Bluffton, S.C. on Sept. 23 and 24. In her collegiate debut, freshman Maddy Corley recorded a share of 17th place in the 95-player field. She birdied two of the four par-3s on holes four and eight.
She also achieved her third birdie on the par-5 fifth hole. Junior Savannah Thompson (+8) shot a 77 in the final round to finish tied for 31st, and sophomore Katy Flax (+11) carded a 79 on day two. She finished with a share of 41st place with eight other golfers.
Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate
The Black and Gold headed about two hours down the interstate to Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. to take part in the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate. Lenoir-Rhyne hosted the tournament on the Ocean Ridge Plantation on Oct.2 and 3.
In the final round of the two-day contest, junior Alexandria Bare (+10) used a five-over 77 paired with her first round 77 to record in her third career top 10 finish. Bare tied for tenth to fuel the Braves (+50) to a seventh place finish in the 17-team field on the par-72, 5,937-yard Panther’s Run Course.
The Braves ended up carding a 315 on day two’s second and final round which followed up day one’s 311.
Barton Invitational at Kiawah
The Braves traveled to Johns Island, S.C. to take part in the Barton Invitational at Kiawah on the Oak Point Golf Course. They recorded their highest finish of the season on Feb. 3.
Corley was the only play to record an under-par round in her first of day one. It was just her seventh round of golf of her collegiate career.
Lady Moc Golf Classic
The ladies made their way down to Lakeland, Fla. to take part in the Lady Moc Golf Classic. It was hosted on the Grasslands Golf and Country Club on Feb. 19 and 20.
Bare managed an even-par 72 and Corley recorded a 1-over-par 73 to lead the Black and Gold to its best round of the contest. They accomplished an eighth-place finish.
Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational
The squad returned to the sunshine state a few weeks later to participate in the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational on March 5 and 6. They finished seventh on day one and tied for seventh place on day two at the Golden Bear Club in Windermere, Fla.
A pair of sophomores, Katy Flax and Megan Munroe both logged a 3-over par 75 in the final round of day two’s outing.
