The Lady Braves kept the winning momentum going in their season when they marched past the Limestone Saints on Feb. 17.

The two wins puts them at an even .500 at 5-5 going into the series against Newberry. The first game in the Limestone doubleheader had to be settled in extras. Freshman Cara Davis flashed some power in this one, hitting a line drive shot down the left field line to get the scoring started for the Black and Gold in the bottom of the first inning.

Taylor Gerhart also managed to join her teammate and hit one out of the yard in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 6-2. The Braves have struggled all year to this point with late game leads and they stayed par for the course in this one.

Limestone came back in the top of the seventh, getting four runs with three coming off of a three run homer by their left fielder Emma Swearingen. With the score tied at 6-6 heading into the top of the eighth in extras, the Braves managed to hold the Saints and keep the score tied entering the bottom of the inning.

That was all they would need. Left fielder Lexie Coxe came up clutch with RBI single to secure the 7-6 win and UNCP’s first back-to-back wins since they won their first two to start the season. The second game lacked the excitement, but was the most dominant performance of the year for the Braves.

Shortstop Taylor Gerhart hit her second homer of the day with a solo shot in the second inning, and that’s all the scoring they would need as Breezy Yelton went on to pitch a complete game shutout.

It was Yelton’s first shutout of the season and brought her record up to 3-1. Star third baseman Jamie Johnson got her hacks in as well, getting RBIs in the third and fifth innings as the final score ended up being 4-0.
