Thousands of organizers congregated on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, on Feb. 12 to partake in the Historic Thousands on Jones Street protest, which is a platform against multiple social injustices such as educational equality, economic justice, workers’ rights and equal protection under law.

The rally has been held annually for the past several years, encouraging any and all to bring their posters and voices as they march to the capitol building.

“The marchers say they are pushing back against policies and views championed by the conservative Republicans who control Congress as well as the North Carolina General Assembly,” a WRAL report said.

The event had multiple speakers share words of encouragement to the crowd of people at the end, such as the new N.C. President of NAACP Rev. T. Anthony Spearman, Rev. Portia Rochelle and Jeymi Dubon, who is a DACA recipient and one of the youngest speakers at the march. This was the first HK on J where Rev. William Barber did not lead the event.
