The UNCP Women’s Basketball team faced off against Augusta University at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court on Jan. 10 in search of their first win of the new year.
In the fourth-quarter, the Braves built up a 16-point lead over the Jaguars before they took to the free throw line for six attempts in the final minute of regulation for a two point win (61-59).
After being tied at the end of the first period 12-12, the teams went into halftime tied again at 25-25, but the Black and Gold piled it on in the second half.
Once again, senior Nyla Allen led the team in scoring and setting yet another career high with 23 points, as well as nearly notching a double-double by tying teammate Brandi Robinson for most rebounds with eight.
This marked Allen’s seventh-straight game notching double figures in points and eighth game of the year as she continues to ball out in her stellar senior season.
Junior Avery Locklear came in a distant second in scoring with 12 points, and while she only made 3-of-11 from the field and didn’t make any of her four field-goal attempts, she was able to knock down 6-of-7 from the free throw line.
Ebone Stevens was third in scoring with 10 points, going 5-of-11 from the field.
“We just have to finish moments, making sure we get good shots, get stops, not giving up threes, getting rebounds in crucial times and not turn the ball over,” head coach John Haskins said. “We just gotta be more poised and learn how to finish a game.”
