On Nov. 4, the third Annual Women’s Leadership Conference will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the University Center Annex.

The conference will be hosted by the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership and is open to the public with free admission.

The event will include speakers, workshops and discussion panels that can help educate applicants about leadership skills pertaining to women’s issues, according to the university’s website.

The Women’s Leadership Conference is based around the theme “Be Your Own Shero,” which is a play on the concept of women becoming their own heroes. The word “shero” is an adaptation of the term “she-hero.”

The theme centers on women’s empowerment and leadership, with talks on networking, strength and the tools necessary to equip attendees to rise above women’s issues, like gender inequality.

Bethany Wendler, associate director of Student Involvement and Leadership, said the conference creates bases and provides spaces for women to foster conversations about their ability to lead.

“Jouelzy, the keynote speaker, is an author, writer and vlogger, known for her eponymous YouTube channel, which addresses lifestyle issues that impact women of color from beauty, culture to technology.

“Jouelzy also founded and wrote for the website SmartBrownGirl.com, which further empowers black girls and women with lifestyle posts,” according to UNCP’s website.

Jouelzy will headline the conference and bring empowerment to women by giving them the materials to become their own “Shero.”

Jouelzy has a large following on YouTube, with 170,000 subscribers, 49,000 followers on Instagram and 82,418 followers on Facebook.

Lunch will be provided, with presenters available to help future leaders gain more knowledge to help them on their journey.

Registration opened Oct. 9 and is open to the students, as well as the public.
