UNC Pembroke reported a range of crimes between May and August, including larceny, vandalism, assault, and a sexual assault that remains under investigation.
In May, notable cases included dating violence classified under Title IX/Clery, a disturbance at The Commons Apartments, breaking and entering at Pembroke Pointe Apartments that resulted in an arrest, and a false pretense case at the campus bookstore.
“‘False pretense’ refers to the crime of obtaining property or money through misrepresentation or deception,” said Phillip Bullard, a University Program Specialist with the UNCP Police Department.
In June, there was a spike in breaking and entering motor vehicle incidents, with seven reports across The Commons, The View, and Pembroke Pointe apartments. There was also a larceny case at Courtyard Apartments, which is under investigation, and a fire report involving a bathroom exhaust fan at Courtyard Apartments.
When asked how long it typically takes for a case to be cleared, Bullard said, “Each case is different, so the length of an investigation can vary.”
In July, crimes included a controlled substance violation that resulted in a student conduct referral and additional breaking and entering motor vehicle incidents.
In August, police reported a breaking and entering/damage to property case at The View Apartments that led to an arrest. There were also two larceny cases at D.F. Lowery and North Hall, both pending investigation, as well as a trespassing case at Courtyard Apartments that resulted in a campus ban. Additionally, three stalking cases were reported and are still under investigation.
