The University of North Carolina at Pembroke Athletics Department is asking for help to raise the funds necessary to expand the baseball and softball fields. Their plan is to update the pre-existing fields with newer bleachers, field houses, dugouts and press boxes. It would cost approximately $4 million.

The project would add the necessary upgrades to the currently outdated baseball and softball stadiums. These updates would increase the overall seating capacity to 750 people, add new LED lights to help illuminate the fields and create a more modern and welcoming entrance.

Student Ashanti Hendricks says, “I would definitely attend baseball events if there was a new baseball pavilion and field. It would make for a much better viewing experience for spectators.”

The plan also calls for indoor batting cages to replace the existing ones found next to the baseball field near the Courtyard Apartments. These cages would mean that our current 6-2 conference, 8-3 overall baseball team and 10-4 overall softball team would get more time to practice no matter the weather.

Another student, Chloe Cramer said, “With the planned renovations, UNC Pembroke will be a place to be for baseball and softball. It will be exciting to see our team under new lights and I hope this helps strengthen their overall drive to be the best.”
