Opening day finally arrived for the Braves. On Wednesday, February 10th, UNCP Baseball opened its season with a doubleheader at home against Barton College, while softball hit the road for a doubleheader against Queens University.

Softball came out swinging this season with a 4-2 win followed by a 5-0 victory. “I am super proud of them and the grit that they showed today. We continued to put the ball in play and eventually the hits turned into runs. Pitching and Catching staff was on point yesterday and made it super easy on the defense,” said Brittney Bennet, Softball Head Coach.

Players have been waiting for this day to come. “It feels great to finally be able to play again,” said sophomore baseball Catcher, Garret Littleton.

“Our team has been excited since the fall to start the season; we have worked really hard to avoid covid and work on our game to finally get to opening day. I was also happy seeing our offense really perform in the double header, we have been working really hard at practice offensively to give our pitchers some run support and it was a great way to start the season,” added Littleton.

While both teams end the day with their wins, Coach Bennet acknowledges that her and the team still has a long road ahead. “I believe we showed a lot of heart and determination yesterday and I am extremely happy to see the players’ hard work pay off,” said Bennet.
