Students and faculty gathered on Nov. 27 to celebrate the life of Tamara Davis.
Davis, a junior who majored in early childhood education, passed away in a car accident on Nov. 10.
The service was held in the quad adjacent to Oak Hall, where Davis resided on campus.
Community Director Danquis McDaniel led the memorial, where the congregation was welcomed by Chancellor Cummings.
Members of Davis’s family were present, including her father, Travis Davis, who thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
The floor was opened for remarks, where several students gave their condolences to those closest to Davis.
Oak Hall Council President Jordine King read a poem and provided a few inspirational words to those in mourning.
“Don’t think of it as a tragedy,” King said. “Remember that we will all, one day, see her again.”
Candles were lit among the congregation as the UNCP Flute Quartet performed “Be Thou My Vision.”
A moment of silence to reflect on Davis’s life followed.
Davis is survived by her father, her two brothers, and her mother, Angie, who was also involved in the accident and remains in critical condition.

Tamara graduated from South View High School in Hope Mills.
She studied a year at Fayetteville State University before transferring to UNCP. She worked at McDonald’s in Pembroke to help with college expenses.
